IMPORTANT NOTE of 22nd May 2003:-

SPEED:-
The game will probably run too fast. Simply
go into Settings, and choose a new delay speed
e.g. 80 - 120 (try it and see which speed you like).
Pressing enter on other settings will leave them
unchanged.

SOUND:-
This game was written to support the old
Soundblaster 16 sound card.
You need to run MSETUP.EXE and choose your
sound card settings (it will try to auto-detect).
If the sound doesn't work, or causes the game
not to work, then run MSETUP.EXE and choose "No Sound".
Then run the game ARGON2D.EXE

What is Argon?
--------------
Argon is a space blast-'em-up game which gradually gets harder
as your score increases. The aim of the game is to shoot the
rocks that fly about the screen at the same time as avoiding
them. Occasionally an enemy spaceship will come on screen and
take a pot shot at you. You must destroy them too. The enemy
spaceships are immune to the rocks.

Scoring Guide
-------------
Large Rocks = 150 points
Small Rocks = 500 points
Enemy Ship = 1000 points

How to run Argon
----------------
You run Argon by simply typing the ARGON2D at the DOS prompt.
When you first run it you will see a message like:-

Configuration file not found - run MSETUP.EXE

Type MSETUP and this presents you with a menu allowing you to
configure your sound card. Choose No Sound if you don't have one.

Now you can type ARGON2D and you are away.

It seems to run fine under DOS or Windows, although I
have seen a case where it runs much to fast when run in Windows.
If this occurs change the redraw delay setting to a higher value
in the game settings ('S' key on main menu).

In the game you are presented with a main menu which consists of:-

Keyboard Config : K
  Game Settings : S
    About Argon : A
           Exit : Esc or Ctrl-C');

Simply press the key corresponding to what you want to do or any
other key to begin play. (It's really quite self explanatory).

Command line options
--------------------
/M<filename> Specify a MOD file (can include path)
/N Disable music (not sound fx)
/L Start on level 10
/? Display list of options

(Note: to disable all sound run MSETUP first and select No Sound.)

Sound Effects and Music
-----------------------
This release of Argon allows you to play music module (or MOD) files
of the following format: MOD, S3M or MTM. These files are readily
available on the Internet but the game comes with a selection composed
by me. Include your own by putting them in the game directory. They
will then be available in the menu in the Game Settings screen (S key
on main menu). You can also use one in a different location on your
hard drive with the /M option (see above).

The sound effects are stored as RAW files in the game directory. If
you delete these files the game may not work properly, but you could,
if you felt like it, replace them with some sounds of your own (for
personal use only ofcourse).

Future Releases
---------------
Argon is in fact my first ever fully functional game. I have
many new ideas in the pipe line. If you have any comments or
suggestions please drop me an e-mail or visit my web page for
future game announcements.
